Maja Maretić Tiro is a senior environmental specialist with over 17 years of experience in managing and delivering a wide range of environmental consultancy projects across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans. As a Senior Strategic Manager at Enova, she leads the Sustainable Infrastructure Department, bringing a strong track record in both public and private sector engagements. Her work spans multidisciplinary projects—from municipal development to complex regional and state-level initiatives.
Mrs. Maretić Tiro specializes in developing strategic documents and plans in the fields of environmental protection, waste and chemicals management, and climate change. She is recognized for her leadership in development cross-sector environmental strategies and facilitating participatory approaches that engage diverse stakeholders through inclusive consultation processes. Her areas of expertise include environmental impact assessments, due diligence, strategic planning, and policy development. She is particularly experienced in conducting environmental due diligence in line with international financial institution (IFI) standards for infrastructure projects, including roads, water and wastewater systems, waste management facilities, urban transport, gas pipelines, power plants, etc.
Mrs. Maretić Tiro possesses a deep understanding of local governance and environmental policy, as well as extensive experience in EU-funded and national capacity-building projects. Through her work she gained a valuable experience in implementation of projects related to various international conventions and Multilateral Environmental Agreements, such as the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Stockholm Convention, Vienna Convention (including the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment), etc. She has successfully managed numerous internationally funded initiatives, collaborating with IFIs and development organizations such as the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, EIB, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, JICA, and the European Commission. She is well-versed in IFI environmental and social policies, safeguards, and performance standards, ensuring compliance with EBRD Environmental and Social Policy, WB Environmental and Social Framework, EIB Environmental and Social Standards, IFC Performance Standards, etc.).
In recognition of her contributions, she received the FY21 VPU Team Award from the World Bank for her role in the Firm Recovery & Support Project.
